Forró

Forró, pronounced fo-ho, is known today as a type of Brazilian music and partner dance. There are several theories on the origin of the word forró. One viewpoint, held by Brazilian folklorist Luís da Câmara Cascudo, states that word forró is a derivative of the word 'forrobodó', meaning great party or commotion.

Ricardo Ambrózio

My forró journey began in 1999 in Rio de Janeiro with David Mico Preto and the Forró nas Alturas company. Initially taking a few classes, I soon immersed myself in the company's daily dance outings. Under the guidance of Rafael Baere, David Mico Preto, and Isabel Padilha, my learning process was largely empirical, fueled by curiosity.

As a dancer and martial artist, I already possessed a foundation in coordination and rhythm. Later, to develop my teaching skills, I took regular classes with José Carlos Valverde to establish a pedagogical method. My dance education continued at Angel Vianna University in Brazil and later at Escola Superior de Dança in Portugal, where forró became one of the central activities to my life as both a dancer and teacher.

Since then, I've been deeply involved in the forró community, participating in workshops, teacher training programs, and festivals. I've co-organized Ai Que Bom Brussels and organized Forrómania in Portugal.

My unique approach to teaching forró blends technical expertise with empirical experience, enriched by my knowledge of body awareness and various body techniques. This combination gives my classes and interactions a distinctive flavor, bridging the gap between formal technique and lived experience in forró.

Here we’ll informing you about the upcoming events and open for private classes (live or online).
